Photography Holidays
Andalucian Photography Holidays provide a relaxed, enjoyable environment for you to improve your photography. The small group sizes with a maximum of only 5 people per holiday plus our expert tuition ensure your progress throughout your stay. Your tutor, Alex Wolfe-Warman, works with you individually so you will learn new photographic skills and techniques whatever your level of expertise and experience.
Beginners to advanced – all are welcome and all will find the course and locations very rewarding. We cater for both film and digital users. We use Photoshop and similar imaging software to analyse, edit and manipulate images (for film users process and CD are available overnight).
The holidays we offer are:
Alhama Carnival
The feast before Lent is celebrated in style in Alhama with a street carnival like no other. Taking place the weekend before and the weekend after Shrove Tuesday every year, this provides fabulous opportunities for colourful and exciting street photography.
The people of Alhama love to dress up and this is a day for the wierd and wonderful to party! Men dress as women and women dress as men with often quite disturbing faces painted onto pillowcases to complete the disguise. They parade around the town speaking in squeeky, high-pitched voices so you could quite easily have a very strange encounter with a friend or neighbour and have no idea who they are! This was a tradition banned by Franco as the disguises were used to satirise and criticise and the only places maintaining this tradition today are Alhama and Sevilla.
You'll need some stamina for this one as the bars are packed until the small hours ...
Andalucia in Spring
With its lovely warm and bright days, springtime in Southern Andalucia is wonderful for photography and famous for its fantastic light and display of wildflowers including poppies, gladioli, irises, lavendar, thyme, thistles and orchids. The smell of springtime almond blossom is delightful.
Southern Andalucia is also home to a host of migratory birds making their journey from Africa to Northern Europe and back again. It's possible to spot eagles and other birds of prey as well as swifts, swallows, woodpeckers, kingfishers, owls and many more.
The Photography and Golf Combo
This holiday gives you a tremendous combination of two of the most popular recreational activities, photography and golf. You have three days of exciting photography tuition in the stunning Andalucian scenery together with two days golfing on two prestigious golf courses, Santa Clara Golf and Baviera Golf .
Alex is an 8 handicap golfer who has played both courses many times. He is confident golfers will enjoy the challenge and beauty of these fabulous courses.
Andalucia in Autumn
Andalucia in Autumn is ablaze with golden colours on the landscape as the leaves start to turn and fall. This combined with the beautiful clear light of this season makes for some spectacular photographic opportunities. The crisp early mornings and evenings have their own very special warm, glowing light as the sun rises and sets.
Additional Information
The minimum camera requirement for our holidays is an SLR camera with full manual control options. Alex will help you improve your photography skills with whatever camera you bring, but please bring the cameras handbook for reference. It is advisable to bring spare batteries for your camera and a tripod would be useful if you have one.
Bring your laptop if you have one, including any necessary leads and conversion sockets for Spain (these can be bought at airports and electrical retailers). A Nikon D200 digital SLR (with 18-200mm lens) and tripod are available for hire.

We have a fully equipped studio where we teach portraiture and still life in the unlikely event that the weather prohibits outdoor photography.
Each day we break for a few hours in the afternoon and work into the evening to catch the best light of the day and also avoid the heat. This gives time to have a relaxing meal, a rest or a swim in the pool in summer. Or perhaps you fancy a spa session in the local Arabic baths and steam rooms where relaxing therapeutic massages are available. For your evening meal, we can recommend some of our friends' bars and restaurants where you will receive a warm Andalucian welcome.
Andalucian Photography Holidays offer expert photography tuition and a chance to discover real Spain. This is not a commercialised tourist area and so, like our holidays, is popular with more independent-minded people.
We look forward to meeting you.
